What is IoT tracking?
IoT tracking is following and measuring the physical world with small, connected sensors. Those sensors send data over a network, for example location, temperature, humidity or usage. The idea is usually simple: instead of samples or manual checks, you get a continuous view of where something is and how it is doing. What you can do with it depends on which technique fits your process and environment.
Two worlds: products and buildings
Broadly, there are two questions organisations want IoT to answer. The first is about individual products and assets: where is something, and in what condition? The second is about buildings and installations: how are the systems already in place performing? These are different problems, each with its own kind of technology. They can be used separately and, when you want to bring the data together, connected via APIs.
Sensing at item level
At item level there are now very small, low-power sensors that can send data continuously. That enables continuous measurement without manual scanning, which differs from a barcode or RFID that usually need an active scan at a fixed point.
Integration at building level
